German Agricultural Society (DLG) - World Class Food Awards
The German Agricultural Society (DLG) was founded in 1885. With over 16,000 members, it is one of the leading organizations in the German agricultural and food sector.
The DLG promotes the product quality of foods on the basis of impartial and binding quality standards. Its quality understanding is based on current scientific findings and self-developed, recognized methods. With its international competitions the DLG is Europe's leader in quality assessment.
Every year some 22,000 foods from Germany and other countries are tested against the DLG tests. The "DLG Award-winner" label is only granted to foods with sound sensory qualities that satisfy the DLG's criteria in accordance with the stringent requirements.
The products are tested by branch-specific, experienced, and well-trained product expert panels whose members work professionally within the food industry, government, food monitoring services and academia. According to the scientifically based, regularly updated, product-related DLG-standards, each product will run through a sensory analysis, specific laboratory examinations, and other product-related testing features.
Only those food & beverage products fulfilling the DLG standards receive awards. Therefore a DLG award stands for "excellent quality", which means, that food & beverage products are made of high quality raw materials and have passed through an outstanding food processing, packaging and sales process.
